Chiswick Village Tree Survey
As must be obvious to any visitor to the Village, the Estate contains a wide variety of tress, ranging from very young planting, to trees original to the establishment of the Village itself.
It has to be kept in mind however, that trees, like all living things, have a natural lifespan. While CVRL has a responsibility to ensure that our tree stock is maintained in healthy condition, it is also important to remember that CVRL has a responsibility for the safety of all those who live in and visit the Village. A tree may externally look quite healthy, but it may represent a danger to us, if for example, the tree is dead inside. A tree that is dead inside may be felled by severe bad weather, raising the risk of both injury to people and damage to the building.
With that in mind, Arborhelp was instructed to undertake a survey of the trees in the Village, to determine the state of our tree stock and to identify any risks that may arise from them.
The scope of the survey was to:
Conduct a positive, ground-based visual assessment of the structural integrity of the trees belonging to the Village
Risk assess any structural defects identified in those trees
Create a tree location plan, providing details of any risks represented by individual trees
Implement any measures needed to deal with unacceptable risks where they might be identified
Provide recommendations on any additional work that would help us in maintaining our tree stock
As part of this exercise, every tree was tagged, its locations plotted on a GIS platform and then assessed visually from the ground for structural defects. The assessment was carried out on a clear day in November 2021.
The assessment of risk of significant harm/damage was undertaken using the QTRA methodology.
